I've developed horrible allergies over the past few years both seasonal and environmental, only starting when I was about 20. The congestion is bad but what I feel like in the morning if I don't take precautions is almost unbearable. I'm so congested that I have trouble sleeping and when I do get to sleep, I wake groggy and have trouble getting up. I started taking Allegra soon after the allergies began, but I eventually realized that I'd be suffering year round and wanted an alternative to medication and something that would deal with the indoor allergies too. I bought the previous version of this and was extremely satisfied with it. I love the permanent filter that I can just vacuum regularly, as it got annoying having to buy new filters that weren't always easy to find in stores. Taking it out and putting it back in is extremely easy and basically foolproof. For me, this purifier does exactly what it says and does it extremely well. It takes care of both the dust and all of the allergens I can't see and I sleep better and wake up like a normal person instead of feeling like I'd barely slept at all. At one point, I needed the outlet I usually plug it in for something else and unplugged it for a short time. I actually started getting congested within a 20 or 30 minutes of it being off--I literally can't be without it while indoors. It's in my bedroom and I turn it on low or medium when I'm in the room and awake, medium while I'm sleeping, and high when I'm at work and otherwise out of the house to keep the air nice and fresh for when I come back in the evening. The noise is so minimal on the lowest setting that I barely notice it anymore. The sound on the medium setting is noticeable but I don't find it annoying. There's no mechanical sound, just the whooshing of air. I would have to to turn up the TV or music if I had it on the highest setting but again, I don't find it annoying, just a very noticeable white noise type of sound(to be honest, I have trouble concentrating and especially sleeping in a dead silent room so the the subtle background noise is actually a plus for me). The only thing I have to wonder about after reading other reviews is what the issue is for people who don't notice a reduction in dust. In my experience, it has done an exceptional job with that and nearly all of the visible dust that used to collect on surfaces is what I now find all in the filter when I clean it. For how well this purifier works, even the retail price is super cost effective but I honestly couldn't believe what a good deal the Amazon price is(I've seen this exact model for at least $30 more at a department store). Definitely affordable enough to buy for multiple rooms if need be. While I've only had this particular model since June, I used its predecessor for several years until I dropped and broke it during a move. Before that, it ran just as well as it had when I first got it. It's an absolute must have for allergy sufferers and even those without allergies would undoubtedly see benefits by using this.

We recently got a kitten, and I had all but forgotten about my cat allergies. I have been having a really hard time sleeping through the night without wheezing and a runny nose, and this is even as I am taking Zyrtec daily. I looked online for some solutions to dealing with pet allergies, and I soon discovered that I needed an air cleaner. As I was searching through Amazon for the perfect air cleaner, I was looking for one in about the $50 range (after all, I had never even used an air cleaner before) for a medium-sized bedroom, that had a permanent filter. I was drawn to this Hamilton Beach model because of the price, the permanent filter, its light weight, and its quiet settings. I have been using this unit for four days now, and I am very impressed with it. -It is extremely light - I move it around our bedroom every few days to make sure it is reaching all of the air. It is also small and does not take up a lot of space. -In my opinion, it is very quiet. In fact, on the Whisper Clean setting, it is actually so quiet that I have checked a few times to make sure that it is on. The medium setting sounds like a fan set on low/medium, and the Quick Clean (high) setting sounds like a fan set on high. None of the settings are louder than the TV. We usually sleep with the air cleaner either on medium or Quick Clean - but my partner and I enjoy sleeping with the fan on in the summer, so it is similar. -It also works as a fan. The filter blows a lot of clean air out, which can be cold. I didn't expect this at first, but now I like it a lot. -The air feels a lot cleaner. My allergies seem to be significantly less since we started using this. I can breathe a lot easier. After three days, I opened the cleaner and looked at the filter - I was amazed at how much it had already caught in just a few days! By the way, we also bought the FURminator Short Hair deShedding Tool for Large Cats to remove any excess/loose hair from my cat. I think the regular use of the Furminator is also helping my allergies a lot! -We can no longer smell the cat's litter box. WHAT??! This is definitely the best surprise. The cat's litter box is in the bathroom attached to our bedroom, about 10-15 feet away from where we keep the air cleaner. We have not smelled the cat's litter box at all since turning this on, which makes buying this worth it just for that reason alone. When I first turned the air cleaner on, I was concerned that it was not working properly because air was only coming out of the back left air vent, not the back right. In case anyone else has noticed this, I contacted Hamilton Beach, and this is the response they sent me: The model 04383 only has a vent on the left hand side, the slats on the right hand side are not open, they are there for aesthetics and symmetry. So, no worries - everything is working as it should! I highly recommend this product and I will either buy more of this exact same model or buy a larger version for my living room.

Just received it and it appears as described. Will it minimize dust in my room? Only time will tell. I have a much larger floor model that uses furnace type filters like this one. Yes, there is still dust in the room but the build up is far slower than other rooms. The filter gets very dirty over time so the unit obviously pulls stuff out of the air that would have settled otherwise. This little unit is the same principal, so expecting it to do it's job as intended. I'm using it in a small office so we will see if it keeps dust levels down. I will update this review if it turns out negative. Otherwise no news is good news. Big bonus that this unit uses filters than can be reused. That saves a lot of money. Eventually, filter will need replacing but not nearly as often as others that are expensive. Quiet mode is exactly that. Quiet. I held a kleenex up to the unit and it did draw it towards the unit and held it. So even at slowest speed there is air movement through the filter and will grab particles. I run it 24/7 as the room is filled with collectibles I do not want to have to dust regularly. I found 2 replacement filters for $25 as opposed to others almost $40 each. The filters are exactly the same as the originals. I bought them to have when ready to eventually replace the originals as they were super cheap at $25 for 2 and will need them sooner or later. Currently they are up to $50 but keep looking for price fluctuations. Love this little air purifier, love that you don't need to ever replace the filter - it is permanent and just needs vacuuming every week or so. It does collect dust and helpful if you suffer from allergies. Love the price too.
