This is not a perfect product, but it is a GREAT alternative to "conventional" mascaras packed with chemicals and irritants. I've tried "natural" mascaras in the past and they all had some deal breaker - they smudged, flaked, applied clumpy, were crazy expensive, etc. - so I wasn't expecting a whole lot from the Ecco Bella FlowerColor mascara. I've used a CoverGirl mascara for YEARS because I have finicky eyelashes - they are relatively long but light colored and extremely fine. Most mascaras are too wet for my eyelashes and turn them in sad, clumpy flylashes, so I've stuck to waxier formulas. I was really pleasantly surprised that the Ecco Bella mascara doesn't clump up on my eyelashes. It's a wetter formula than I'm used to, but slow and careful application prevents any clumping. The plus side to this wetter formulation is that any stray mascara marks from application wipe away INSTANTLY. Seriously. No more rubbing or tugging at your delicate eye area! Another plus - despite being "natural," I haven't had any issues with Ecco Bella flaking or smudging. I wore it for the first time on a rainy day and thought, "Well, this is either asking for raccoon eyes, or the most perfect mascara test!" To my SHOCK, the Ecco Bella didn't smudge or run AT ALL! Like I said, the Ecco Bella FlowerColor is not a perfect product. It doesn't give my eyelashes the volume I'm used to and as I've mentioned, it is a much wetter formula than I'd like. But as far as natural mascaras go, this one is hard to beat. EDIT June 2016: After a month of using this mascara, I still love it. It has started to dry out some, which has made it easier to apply and build coats for volume. As mentioned, I prefer drier, waxier mascaras, so this is perfect for me. If you have fine eyelashes that clump easily, I would still recommend this mascara, but expect to wait a few minutes between coats (I usually put a coat of mascara on, brush my teeth, then put on another - 2 coats is, for me, perfect for daytime/casual/work settings, but of course, your mileage may vary).

This mascara is equal to or superior than mascara coming from better known brands (like Clinique, Revlon, L'Oreal). I was skeptical of the quality of Ecco Bella's mascara at first, since fewer ingredients made me think it was probably missing some important makeup attributes (like applying easily or staying on). But I was elated to discover its very creamy and easy to apply consistency that goes on evenly and doesn't cause clumps. The color is definitely black, but not sharpie black, so it doesn't draw too much attention. When worn all day, it does not dry up and flake off in little crusty pieces. Since I live in a hot and dry climate, mascaras tend to make my lashes stick together and form clumps or leave them looking gelled or dead. The mirror on the bottle is surprisingly good for a bottle so thin. I prefer it over my bathroom mirror when I really want both sets of lashes to look the same, since it offers more magnification. What keeps me coming back: it doesn't cause visible lash dryness, looks great after application, easy to put on and get off, stays on well despite hot weather, and it is truly healthy/natural since it poses little to no health risk (according to EWG's cosmetic database) Bottom line: With such a good price and high quality, plus Amazon's free shipping offer, this mascara is a must try for anyone health conscious about their makeup or unsatisfied with the dead lash look that most mascaras give me.

I have slowly been trying to transition my beauty routine from chemical laden products, to organic, more natural, makeup. While I have found the Environmental Working Group (EWG) website helpful for my sunscreen purchases, their beauty section is decidedly less organized. I did still utilize the EWG website, to compare and consider product ingredients. I found Ecco Bella Black Mascara through Amazon searches; I was trying to decide between three different more "natural" mascara products, and finally decided to settle on the Ecco Bella brand due to good reviewer feedback about the product. The mascara comes packaged in a professional appearing container, with a cute + practical mirror embedded on the backside of the product. I was pleased with the performance of the Ecco Bella mascara, however, the experience will not be the same as the chemical filled products you may be use to. The mascara darkened my lashes, and added minimal length and "fullness" (especially with multiple applications). At times, the mascara could be just a little bit clumpy, but the problem is easily alleviated by taking a little bit of Kleenex or toilet paper and wiping the brush. The Ecco Bella mascara did take a little bit of time to dry (I would say about a minute), but once dry, the product did not smear or flake. Overall, I would say that the Ecco Bella brand, is a Great, more natural, alternative solution to traditional mascara. The results will not be as dramatic as some products with chemical fillers, but your eyes will still get some definition and "pop", without risking possible harm to your body.

I enjoy the artistry of makeup and I enjoy finding new products. I'm a strict vegan and I only use green, safe products. I independently research ingredients and rely on the EWG (Environmental Worker's Group) database "Skin Deep" which dissects products by ingredient and rates them on a scale from least toxic (1) to most toxic (10). Eco Bella brown mascara received a toxicity rating of 1 (as of December 2017) which is excellent. I have very sensitive skin and eyes. Good: 1) Safe. No toxic ingredients. 2) Color is a pretty medium-dark brown. 3) Reasonable staying power. It doesn't flake, or it didn't on me for the five hours I was wearing it. I haven't tried wearing it for a typical eight hour work day, but that's because I don't wear makeup to work. If you do try this product for that amount of time, I'd put a little bit of o coconut oil on a cue tip and bring it with you just in case you need to clean up your eye area. Cons: 1) Very dry. 2) Not buildable. 3) Makes my lashes clump badly. *A different brush may help with the clumping issue, but ultimately, I don't think it would have a substantial effect on the overall appearance. Overall, it just looks okay with one layer. If mascara is not particularly important to you, this one is fine. I will use the remaining tube, but I won't purchase it again. My typical mascara is 100% Pure Black Tea lengthening mascara. I just wanted to try something less expensive. Ecco Bella, unfortunately, is not worth the money.

Having finished chemo and radiation treatments I have become quite a 'post cancer hippie' with regards to all of my personal products. I don't want anything with a bunch of toxic ingredients. Once you really start looking at the ingredients list of products... well, it's more disturbing that I ever realized. I use the EWG skindeep database and try for only products that score a 2 or below, but have a few that are 3 or 4. ([...] This mascara is about as perfect as you can find. It performs wonderfully for having no crazy crap in it. Yes it will run if you cry, but I look at that as a good thing, it's not exactly normal for mascara not to run - I don't want those chemicals on my body anywhere! Update 12/10/2023: I DON'T RECOMMEND THIS HORRIBLE PRODUCT AT ALL, MADE MY EYE BROW HAIR FALL OFF AND I ONLY USED IT FOR 1 WHOLE DAY. I received the item on 12/08/2023, tested it on 12/09/2023(the very next day in the morning). I wore it all day on my eyebrows only and with no touch up throughout the day(i didn't need to since it faded but was still noticeably there, and wore it with no makeup, nothing on my face besides my sunscreen. And, by the end of the night( full day wore mascara) roughly 11pm after using only luke-warm water to take off the easily removed mascara on my brows - I KID YOU NOT : MY EYEBROW HAIR STARTED FALLING OFF. This has never happened with retail and name-brand mascara. I don't know the real formula(ingredients) because the seller's actual list of ingredient on product page ingredients is wrong/inaccurate/ false & misleading ingredients. And, what i do know is that whatever they used cause lots and i mean a lot of my real eyebrow hairs to fall off(sorry, i threw the box package with the writtien ingredients away that night afterward because of thr above incident. otherwise i would have written what it actually claimed as its ingredients on package box vs. its description on the siteny seller). Because- when i recieved the product it had way more ingredients and all of them were not listed on the listing & description of product by seller. I knew this was off and yet i still gave their product the "benefit of the doubt" aka "second chance" to redeem itself to only realize my gut was right and i should have return it when i saw the actual product listed ingredients on website did not match at all to its real ingredient list on the actual product. When i recieved this product , i saw that it has way more ingredients than listed which are not good. I still wanted to try it so here are my thoughts: It smells like any generic or retail brand mascara. Also, it works the same as well. Cons: Besides the false advertisment of ingredients the product is just okay. Its not waterproof. Yes, it works, but like any average non-waterproof mascara - it can clump when you layer it. Having to pay ~$20 to +$20 for this mascara is ridiculous since it doesn't match its descption -let alone the "clean" ingredient lists it has listed on this listing.( you can buy cheaper from retail/amazon with same results or better). Pros: It dries pretty quickly after applying so if you like that than great. Works like any average non-waterproof mascara. Comes off pretty quickly and doesn't leave behind residue like most non-waterproof mascara. I have not tested if it stings my eyes because i use it for my brows so i cannot speak on irration of eyes. Would i recommend this product? No, i would not recommend this product because: This works like any other mascara i can get for cheaper if i ever ran out of mascara. Ecco Bella FlowerColor Plant Based Vegan Mascara (Black) goes on very light. I want volume, so I continued to dip the wand and apply. I found even more success for volume when I allowed it to dry for a little while before making another application. Dries well. Doesn't run or smudge. I'm very happy with how this looks and works. I found it was useful beyond mascara, that I can dab the tip of an eyeliner brush on the end of the mascara wand to collect some product and apply like a liquid eyeliner, another product I have struggled to find a safe version of. I have had NO symptoms or allergic reactions from this mascara. I even slept in it overnight and still no symptoms. It also stayed in place well too. Washed off easily with a washcloth. The reason I decided to give Ecco Bella Mascara a try was because of the guarantee and return policy. When there is a product claim for "all-natural" "for sensitive eyes and skin," "Vegan, Cruelty-Free, paraben-free, gluten-free and fragrance-free" the 100% Satisfaction Guarantee gives me exactly what I need to take a risk. I have evaluated literally hundreds of mascara brands, scouring ingredient lists to ensure that known offenders wouldn't be in there. However, the problem for me are the unknown offenders. Uncovering problem ingredients seems to be a never-ending effort. This is why I need manufacturers to stand behind their product with satisfaction guarantees and a fair return policies, because usually it doesn't work out. Trying something new is an expensive proposition. So I won't even try something unless that is in place. I simply don't have that kind of money. Coming up empty handed in the marketplace, I tried making my own mascara -- which was clumpy if it wasn't runny. I just couldn't get a consistent formula. Making my own makeup is NOT what I want to do with my time. And I don't want to be sick, so I've not been wearing any for a long time. I wish I could say where I heard about this product. Maybe it was from my MCS group or from a Google Search on "chemically safe" or "non-toxic" mascaras. Whatever the path, I'm very glad I found it. It's everything I want in a mascara generally, but also everything I want as someone who has severe Multiple Chemical Sensitivities. I'm looking forward to see how long it takes for this to be used up or dried out and will revise this listing again when that happens so you can know about the shelf life I experience. As long as the company maintains its current formula and delivers this product as I am experiencing it now and also can also show me a decent shelf life, I will be a lifelong customer.

I really hate mascara. Or, I should say, I USED to hate mascara. And then I found this via reviews on Amazon, and it has become part of my everyday makeup routine. I never used mascara unless I was doing something formal because it always caused irritation in my eyes and eye lids. I used to also get sties frequently...it was just never very fun. This mascara has very gentle, natural ingredients, and the bottle seems to last a very, very long time. It is a pretty everyday look, very natural. No spider eyes here, in fact, I would say that people would have a hard time knowing if you were wearing mascara at all, which personally, I really like. It just accentuates the eye enough. So, if you are going for big eye-popping WOW mascara, you probably will not like this. For that, I like "Yes They're Real!' Benefit Mascara. But for every other day, this is perfect. I purchased Black, I think Brown would probably be a little too light, even for me. I deducted one star because it does need to be reapplied if you are wearing it all day and into the evening. The only other issue with this product is that it isn't water resistant at all. Tears, sweat, rain, etc., make it smudge.

I've been using this mascara for 10 years, it's the only mascara I've used that doesn't irritate my eyes. It's not waterproof but it's definitely more transfer-proof than conventional non-waterproof mascaras. One issue is that the ingredients in the listing are inaccurate. I'm so happy to have found this amazing mascara! I've been wanting to find a natural alternative for years as I've been trying to slowly get chemicals out of my life and this is my final cosmetic to have made the switch. I have tried several different natural mascaras which all left smudges under my eyes as the day progressed. I'm so happy to find that this mascara is different! I have worn it for several weeks now without a single smudge also under mascara-challenging conditions. I teach yoga and even on a day when I'm teaching three sweaty classes in one day, this mascara holds fast and looks great even at the end of the day with one application. The bottle is very sweet with a mirror on the side. The mascara is a beautiful colour and leaves my eye lashes looking long and defined in a natural way, separating the individual eyelashes with the sweet little brush. It honestly works better than any chemical mascara I've tried in the past - and I've tried them all! I can't recommend it enough

Very good mascara. I was looking for a non toxic , easy to remove mascara in brown color. I have very sensitive eyes and most of the mascara I used in the past made my eyes red by and of the day and after few days constant use, I had to take brakes, because my eyes felt very tired. The mascara last all day, doesn't smudge toward and of the day. The only little minus is that the mascara a bit watery, so it takes a bit longer to dry compare to other non toxic mascaras that I used . Other than that , the best non toxic mascara that I ever used.
