Great idea!
I couldn't wait to get this for my LO. She loves to help me in the kitchen and is crazy about eggs for some reason. The egg is a cotton material and the shell is metal. It is smaller than a real egg but not too small. You stuff the egg in the shell and snap the two pieces together. Then pull it apart to "crack" the egg. The egg pops out like a real egg. This works most of the time (the egg can sometimes get stuck in the shell or fall out with the yolk side down). All in all a good egg!

Great toy! Might buy another.
My two year old has an egg for breakfast every morning, so this play egg has been a favorite for her own role-playing games. I love that the inside is large, cloth, and realistic. The play eggs with a small yellow ball for a yolk just seem a bit too scary to me. With this egg, a younger child could play with just the fried egg until old enough not to put the shell in his mouth. I didn't have any problems with the egg being difficult to crack after day 3 or so. My daughter doesn't get it the first time, every time, but she has always been able to get it open on her own.The egg is the size of a small or medium real egg. I posted a pic of the shell and fried egg in my average female hand. The fried egg fits perfectly in the IKEA metal skillet, and can be squished to fit in the wood Hape starter kit frying pan (the lid does fit over it).The cost of this egg is rather high for such a small object. However, I think it's worth the money given the quality of the materials and flexibility in roll playing. I would rather my children have a few high-quality toys that get a lot of use than a bunch of cheaper ones that may not be loved as much.

Disappointingly expensive
This toy looks like so much fun and it is, for a 4-5 yr old because they don't notice the immediate dings, which appear, on the egg shell. When the toy arrives, even the adults can't help but play with it because it's so cute to pretend to crack and bake the egg. It's quite expensive per egg. It took only a few days after we received the toy to notice little dings on the egg. We've had it for 3 weeks now and the egg no longer looks like an egg. It's all dinged up. (I only have one child who's been taught to be gentle on the toys.) I don't think my daughter minds the dings much, but it sure does not look like and egg anymore and it's a disappointment b/c it was an expensive purchase (we purchased several). I don't recommend it for that kind of money.

Crack the egg!!!
When the egg arrived we had to take it out immediately to see what all the bad reviews regarding its ease of opening were about. The result: It opens without difficulty, it is super cute and seems durable. Our LO will be receiving this egg for Christmas and will hopefully have a lot of fun with it (I know I will :-)). Other than that I think it is a great concept that has brought imaginary kitchen toys a long way.I gave it five stars for educational value because I truly believe that anything that promotes imagination and dexterity nowadays without requiring batteries should get an A+ - even if it is just a little egg.

Smaller than Expected
This is a well made toy - the egg shell is made of metal and the "fried egg' is nicely made. I returned it however, b/c I purchased the colorful shakin'/music eggs which come in a set of 5 and hoped this Biofino egg could make it a full 1/2 dozen. Alas, this egg is much smaller than the other ones.

Creative idea
Our 15 month old daughter likes any toys she is able to open and close. She enjoys opening and closing the shell, but needs help putting the egg inside of it each time. She a bit too young for it, but really likes watching the cause and effect of it coming out of the shell and going into the frying pan. One less star because of the price, which I thought was a bit high for this product.

Very cute and fun, but hard to 'crack'
Like others have said, this is a really cute and fun addition to a play kitchen, but cracking the egg is not a kid-friendly task. My son has to ask me to open it for him each time, which isn't that big of a deal. He doesn't know any better, but I know if he could crack it himself, he'd get even more of a thrill out of it. He still loves it though, so I still give it 4 stars.

Not Hard To Open!
I saw several reviews saying the egg was very difficult to open, so I was hesitant to buy it. I decided to test it today before I gave it to my son for his birthday to see how hard it would be, and much to my surprise, it was very easy to open. I tested it several times to make sure, and it opened easily every time. Maybe I just got a good egg? Very cute by the way.

Man braucht geschickte Finger :))
