Works Well
These really knock you out but I would be slightly concerned if using them since it's likely that the actual amount of melatonin is much higher than advertised, very common for companies to put hundreds times more than they state on the label. They are very effective for sleep though I have had other brands of melatonin sleep aids and these really do the trick. You feel a bit groggy in the mornings but it clears up later in the day.

Has helped me get better sleep after trying other remedies
For those who have trouble sleeping or staying asleep, this may be the answer. I rarely had good results with the various Melatonin(s) out there. Then, I saw this time release version. In the description, it says that it will help you fall asleep and then the time release will help you stay asleep. As for its effectiveness, I found that after taking it for about a week, I started seeing an improvement in how long I could stay asleep. I am a senior and don't sleep as well as I used to. If you have had sleep issues, keep your expectations real. Yes, this time release has helped, and it is better than anything I have used before. While it is an improvement, it isn't likely to bring back the sleep you had as a teenager. In conclusion, follow the directions on the bottle and best if you can take it close to the same time every night.

Better, sustained sleep
Update 12/17/2025: Second order of these. I ran out and was a reaffirmed I sleep better on them. ( I reverted to a melatonin gummy when out of these and was reminded that these indeed keep me down for the night in a way a gummy doesn't. Anyway, I'm getting moreso sold on these. Earlier review: I've decided I love sustained release melatonin after using others: quick- dissolving, gummies, and regular (not sustained release). I get a better, endured sleep. I take one about an hour or two before sleep, and one at bedtime. I'm sold on these!

Works perfectly for me
I have trouble falling asleep and staying asleep. The best solution I had found before trying this product was the prescription medication Zolpidem (Ambien). However, I had been advised by my doctor that it can be addictive and often requires an increased dosage to continue to be effective. I also tried Sleep Aid, which you can get here on Amazon Kirkland Signature Nighttime Sleep Aid (Doxylamine Succinate 25 mg), 96-Count Tablets (Pack of 2) or you can get directly from Costco. I also wrote a review on these, in which I explain that I found them to be surprisingly effective, but almost too powerful. They caused me to feel very groggy when it was time to get up and face the day. I tried this option at my doctor's suggestion (he suggested melatonin, not this particular brand, by the way). He told me that melatonin is something that the body produces naturally, but as we get older it tends to produce less of it, therefore making sleep more difficult. He suggested that I start out with one 3mg tablet, and if that didn't work, to increase it to two, and then if that didn't work, to try three, and if that didn't work, to forget it. Well, I never had to go past one 3mg tablet. I take one pill 30 minutes to an hour before I go to sleep. They do not "knock you cold" into a deep sleep, so if that is what you are after you'll be disappointed. But, for me, they do make me drowsy and make it easy for me to fall asleep. I am not so sure about the time released feature that this particular brand boasts, but they do tend to keep me asleep at just the right level. What I mean by this is if, for example, I had to break out of my sleep for whatever reason, it would be easy for me to do so. I suppose the best way to describe its effect is that it pushes you into a "normal" sleep pattern. Lastly, as other reviewers have written, taking them also makes me dream much more, thus it puts me into a deeper realm of sleep, thus allowing me to get a deeper state of rest. I do feel more rested after taking these than I do after taking Ambien. Keep in mind that this product, like most medications or supplements, will affect different people in different ways, so how they affected me may be quite different than how they affect you. But, nevertheless, I wanted to share my own experience in case it might help you make a purchasing decision. Good luck and I hope this helped!

Two Key Traits
Just about right, is my description of Natrol 3mg Time Release Melatonin. I started out thinking more is better with 10mg. My experience was what I would almost call a low grade hangover the next day and into the next day. I then went down to 5mg and thought that would be the answer and better but still a lagging feeling the next day to slightly take me off my game. This product solved two problems the Time Release keeps me pretty much in a sleep mode all night long. As for me I take it every other night so as to avoid the hang over effect after a couple of days build up in my system. Finally after many many years of sleeping problems i found just a little dab will do you, 3mg.

Works but made me a bit jittery
These melatonin tablets actually gave me good energy but they also made me feel a little jittery and kind of weird. I’d recommend breaking them in half if you’re sensitive like me. They still work, just better in a smaller dose.
