Works and flexible
This does the job. Is it perfect? No. Could any book holder that you set across your lap while you sit in a chair and read be perfect? I don't see how. You can adjust the height and set it up with the legs facing two different ways. And then, separetly, you can adjust the angle of the book. The clips that hold the book (although somewhat delicate) are versatile enough and move so it will work on any size book. On a big thick book that I was starting, I clipped the left side tightly but the right (fat) side I just clipped part of the book, enough to hold it up because I wanted to flip the pages as I read easily without them being clipped down. The book stayed up just fine and the page stayed put well. There are little numbers on the buttons you push to adjust the heights so you can get both sides perfectly aligned. Is is super strong? No but strong enough to hold BIG books. Is it "sorta flimsy" as some reviews wrote? I suppose. The legs appear to be aluminum, not steel (lol). But do you need steel to hold a book? I set this over my lap while I sit in a chair and read. It works. Works well. It is light weight, easy to adjust, easy to move off your lap when you're done reading. I like it and find it great for helping me read comfortably and keeping my hands free from holding the book.

Best Bookstand
I have been struggling to hold books when reading. I am developing arthritis in my hands. I have tried book pillows and other bookstands, but this one is by far the best. It isn't perfect, but none of the available bookstands seem to solve the problems I see. Overall, I highly recommend this bookstand. I bought the extralarge bookstand in black (I mistakenly thought it would be all black; the black or white refers solely to the color of the panel on which the book lies). The bookstand is very lightweight. It takes very little strength to carry/move it. This is a positive, especially as one gets older. One "failing" is that the bottom arms are not lightly weighted at the tips to ensure that when a book is being held there is a counterweight to the book's weight. The weights don't need to be heavy weights, but they need to be at least a couple of ounces. A second "failing" is that there is a slight lip on which books can be caught. It is the natural edge that occurs from the wrapping of the backboard. Once I became aware of it, I could compensate for it, but it would have been a better design if the desktop was a single piece with no wrapping. A third "failing" is the design and placement of the clips that hold the book. There really should be 3 clips, not 2. I read hardcover books and not all hardcover books are the same. I want the books held open without breaking the spine. With 2 clips it can be done but not as well as it could be done with 3 clips. In addition, the place where the book rests on the clips should be flat, not round. A third clip would also be useful for books that use endnotes. These "failings" are really very minor complaints. I read multiple books at a time, generally 2 nonfiction and 1 fiction, and I have found it easy to switch books and to accommodate books of different sizes and weights (the biggest problem being the lip mentioned earlier). One book I am currently reading is more than 1,000 pages and the bookstand handles it easily. Even adjusting the angles is easy. If I had to pick one thing that I would absolutely recommend be done to the bookstand in a future redesign, it would be to change the angle-adjusting buttons from push-in buttons to raised twist buttons. But even the push-in buttons are easy to use and easy to push in. There is another version of this bookstand available; it has 3 arms rather than 2 arms per side. However, it doesn't have the clips. If your need is for book reading, the third arm is unnecessary as the stand will be too high. More important, however, are the clips. The clips carefully hold a book on the stand; the 3-arm stand that I looked at didn't have clips and relied on a shelf that was not adjustable. This 2-arm stand is not only less expensive but better suited for book reading than the 3-arm stand. As I wrote, my complaints are really minor complaints that would make an excellent bookstand more excellent.

Wobbles, but otherwise works well
Holds even heavy books, although my "Complete works of Shakespeare" only fits decently if you're reading in the middle of the book. (The page holders bend outward to accommodate the thickness, so it does work, but it doesn't work well.) I've used it on large and small books, and it works even on books that don't open very easily. The page holders only rotate and do not flip away, so you don't have the option to use the stand without them. They don't reach the buttons on my Chromebook, but this may cause issues with some smaller devices like medium or large tablets, as the tips of the page holders stay in pretty much the same place all the time regardless of how they are rotated. (They do move a little thanks to the springs, which is helpful when reading the text behind them.) Use care when turning pages. Often I will leave one or two pages out of the page holders if I need to flip back and forth frequently, as this can be fairly time-consuming. The folding hinges are sturdy - can't adjust height or angle with one hand, but also doesn't collapse on its own. Rotation is very easy but makes a clicking noise. The stand does wobble, but I mostly noticed when using very heavy books or when using it to hold a notebook while I wrote in it. When writing, I used my free hand to stabilize the stand, and it worked tolerably but wasn't ideal (partly because my wrist often rested on the ledge or the page holders).

An okay item
I had bought this to help me read books. I am recovering from an hand injury and been sad that reading books have been a challenge. I found this and was so excited to get this. Positive: love how you can change the height and way it sits. Also love how it is lightweight and not that heavy at all. Negative: does not hold the book to wall. Very hard to move the clips that holds the pages for you. Is not that wide. Very hard to have it sit comfortably or lay with it. Need to have it rest on you. The other thing is keeps tipping over nonstop. I have adjusted it many times and no matter what it keeps tipping over.

Book stand
This is adaptable to all books and we should all use this stand because it is an excellent alternative to using our cell phones and looking down.

Very Helpful
I like to read in bed and this is wonderful for holding my tablet. It is aluminum, so it is lightweight but still strong. I really like it. I do wish it had one more leg section, though. It would allow me to adjust it so it had more height.
