Simple beauty for a grown person
So, one big thing to note with this bike is that the bolts on the wheels are not the most common kind. You won't be able to use the old-school type of pegs because the bolts go inward on the back. In other words, the wheels have a hole in them and the bolt needs to go through the wheel fork and peg and then into the wheel. I don't know why the wheels are threaded differently than each other, but if you plan to put pegs on this, it will involve a little more research than what I did. This is just a unique detail to note and consider. In no way does this reflect on this bike in and of itself. This bike is a beautiful work of simple design. I took off a couple of the stickers just because I love the look of the brushed gunmetal paint finish. The paint is so satiny and it really sets off the whole look of the bike with these infinity wheels. I am just an old-school grown man born in the late 70s who wants a bike that reminds me of what a bike used to be, I am not a vert ramp dude or anything like that. So, I love the single break and every effort made to design this bike for a minimal look. It is a little more heavy than I recall my childhood Huffy bike being, but I am too. What I love most with this bike is how deceptively long it is. You can have quite a bit longer arms and legs than mine (I'm average) and still do quite well with this design. My son is eight and this is clearly not a bike designed for his dimensions. My wife insisted I not get a kids bike and this my friends is certainly no kid's bike, however nostalgic it might make me feel.

Solid deal if catching it when the price is right.
This review is coming from someone who has riden bmx for over 20 years, and has worked in or been a part of the bmx industry for over a 15 years now. So I know a a few things when it comes to high end, low end and everything in between. With that out of that way, let me say this, the L100 has a lot of good going for it. If managing to catch it for under $400 you can't go wrong. The full 4130 chromoly frame fork and bars is a huge step in the right direction and an excellent starting foundation if wanting to upgrade the bike in the future. The sealed rear wheel, mid bottom bracket, and internal headset are also nice, but I'll touch on those in a bit. The frame accommodates wide tires, I've pictured a 2.4" eclat fireball in the rear. The forks also have ample space for large tires as well. Stock pivotal seat is pretty comfy. Brakes feel pretty solid for stock brakes. Now, where the bike does fall short. The front wheel, it's unsealed. At the original asking price, there are other bike companies out there in this price range offering better specs. So I would have liked to see a sealed hub here. Now, the rims on these bikes are pinned instead of welded. While not a huge deal when you take in to account who this bike is marketed to, it's still something to make note of. The sprocket suffers from the "mass produced quickly" so it was rather bent causing some tight spots. Usually this is something you can't avoid on complete bikes like this. Stock chain is dainty, so I upgraded to a shadow v2 half link. There was grease on the clamp area of the stem where the bars go. I've never in my life greased that area, and I definitely recommend anyone gets one to check it before slapping the bars on.All in all, I purchased this for my wife to pedal around with me at skateparks so I wasn't expecting to be wowed. However I wasn't let down by the quality. Mongoose may be known as a department store brand, but they do have quite the bmx heritage. I think if you can score this bike on a deep discount, or sale and swap out the wheels, chain, perhaps stem and cranks at some point. You'll have a solid bike. Straight out of the bike, it's great for beginnera and intermediate or that old guy getting back in to it after years off the bike. Also, one thing to note, some of reviews are of people who bought a bmx bike and don't really understand what they bought. So for those reviews noting the chain guard or a kick stand. This isn't meant for a kickstand. And the chain guard is there because it has to be, you really aren't expected to keep it on the bike.

pound for pound - best beginner BMX ???
first of all - i got this bike for an "steal" open box - $320.00 prime - so my review is kinda skewed -but indeed if you can get this bike for <$500 or <$400 - i would submit it is the best pound for pound -yes i hear you - they sell mongoose at walmart (no doubt) - but look at the specs -chromolly frame, forks, and handlbars, double walled rims, integrated head bearings, pivot seattry to find this on any other "branded" bike - PK Ripper,GT, WTP, Cult, Subrosa, and Kink (on a side note the Kink Whip) is about as close as one can come - but the 2022 models are gone and now the 2023 models are $529.00again - my review is a bit skewed - as frankly i got an open box steal - indeed box was damaged - but bike was 100% new -look i aint no serious rider - just enjoying my inner 12 year oldon side note (being 5-8) - for me the seat post is a wee low at 270 mm - so i ordered a 320mm to replace itbut again no major tricks here - just street cruising - so each to their own... cheersUPDATE !! - price today 8-23-22 ($382.00) - not prime - but indeed pick this steal up !!!!again pound for pound - compare the specs to any other BMX on Amazon or and other BMX bikes -GT, Redline, WTP, Subrosa, Cult - you simply cannot do any better !!!

Awesome Purchase!
This bike was a little pricey but compared to local retailers it was a good deal. My husband loves this bike. He is outside all the time with our boys. He said it’s a smooth ride and handles east!
