Classic ink. Best value in a blue fountain pen ink.
Serenity Blue is a classic ink that has been around a long time, although it used to be called "Florida Blue" in the past. It's a very affordable ink, but performs above its price range. It's well behaved, isn't prone to drying out, and easy to clean from a pen while still being waterproof enough to read the original writing. It's one of those inks people tend to use as a default ink because it works so well that you'll judge other newer inks based on how well it performs in comparison to Serenity Blue. But there's more. Fountain pen inks have this tendency to concentrate and get darker the longer they stay in a pen (likely due to slowly drying out), so inks tend to be lighter after a fresh refill and darkest as the ink supply is closer to empty. What surprised me with this ink is that it starts out as a standard office-friendly medium blue ink, but as time goes on, it pushes more towards a blue-black and eventually a blue-black with considerable red sheen. I didn't notice a lot of red sheen when I made ink swatches, it was very subtle. But after using it in practice for a while, I noticed quite a lot of pretty sheen that tends to only be prevalent in more expensive inks. But every shade from its lightest to darkest is still a nice blue ink. I expected to merely use this ink as an inexpensive ink for the office, but I didn't expect it would be one of my favorite inks.

Best ink
I only use fountain pens to write with. For me, they are easier than the ball point pens. I love the way the ink flows and how easy it is to write with a fountain pen. I own Mont Blanc and Waterman pens. The ink is the best. No clogging. Smooth flowing out of the nib. Follow the instructions on how to fill your device for the best results but do keep your pen clean. The ink has a beautiful blue color to it. It stands out from the from the 'normal' blue and black ink. For the quality and amount of ink, it is a great buy. I won't buy any other brand of ink for my fountain pens. I have been using this brand it seems like forever. My first Mont Blanc was over 50 years ago. The color is a very refreshingly bright, colorful and lets your words stand out. For me there is no other ink worthy of being used in my fountain pens or to express my written words.

A Safe Classic: An Essential Blue
The Waterman Serenity Blue fountain pen ink is a phenomenal option if you’re looking for a traditional ink that works on almost every paper, is conservative in style, and stands out against a black legal document. We aren’t filling out the United States Census by hand anymore, nor sitting in law offices underlining legal documents, but the blue ink works fantastically for students or professors grading assignments who want something classic with a playful touch. The Waterman Serenity is a heritage ink, especially with vintage American or Western European fountain pens. Waterman is a brand acquired by a French company but retains mid-century American production standards, clearly seen in their unchanged ink formula. It works phenomenally in my Parker 51, as shown in my short demonstration on Rhodia paper. I highly recommend this fountain pen ink as a first buy. Couple it with a black Pelikan 4001 inkwell for your first two fountain pen colors. Instead of buying top-line ink from Pilot, these classics are a better “safe” choice. They have been tried and tested for nearly a centennial and deliver excellent performance. This ink also works exceptionally well in the Waterman 52, as expected, since both come from the same company. Even if you already own another blue ink, this one is worth trying. Waterman Serenity Blue strikes the perfect balance of blue—not too dark, not too light, not obnoxious. It’s a safe option that’s more playful than basic ballpoint blue, with visible shading in certain letterforms, acting precisely as a dry-wet ink should. Overall, this is a great ink. Enjoy your fountain pens, don’t buy too many at once, and savor the inks you love. Even if you have many pens, give this basic blue a try—you haven’t lived until you’ve used one. Thank you very much.

Good, safe ink; a nice blue
This was my second order of Waterman Serenity Blue ink. The ink is well behaved in any pen and doesn't stain pens. It is a serene medium to dark blue with some shading depending on the pen and nib, suitable for most any use. It has a slight periwinkle tint, but that isn't usually apparent. On non-absorbent paper (such as some greeting cards) it can also have a red sheen, but again that is not usually apparent on regular paper. The glass bottle is very attractive and traditional but not fancy. It is well designed to facilitate getting the last amount of ink from the bottle by sitting the bottle on one of its side angles. For an ink that is not marked as being permanent, it has good water resistance when dry. I've not tested it to see if it's truly permanent. The bottle is marked "France," which is nice. My first order, several years ago, had no problems. My recent order, however, was not satisfactory because it appears this is not a new package of ink. The box is not in good condition, with worn corners and bulges and the top taped shut with a big piece of white tape or label. This was to be part of a gift (with a pen) and will totally not work for that because the box looks awful. Also, the bottle is not as full as expected, but that alone would not be a problem. It's not worth shipping back, but I contacted amazon and they said they would send me a new bottle. I can't ask for more than that, other than it would have been nice if I could have completed the gift today instead of next week. If there is any further problem, I'll edit this review. I do appreciate their response. EDIT: I received the new bottle of ink just as promised. The second box looked a little better but had minor damage. I gave up and gave the ink without the box. None of this has anything to do with the quality of the actual ink or Waterman, so I did not deduct a star. I also did not deduct any stars for packaging, as there is nothing inherently wrong with Waterman's bottle and box when it is new and undamaged. Hopefully this was just a warehouse fluke and will be resolved as promised.

It's a true classic.
If you have a fountain pen that won't write well with this ink, you have a defective fountain pen. This ink just works, regardless of whether your pen writes dry, writes wet, has trouble starting, whatever. That's why it's been around forever. I used it in college 30-ish years ago and I don't think it's changed. The color is blue; there's not much more to say. It's a nice, professional looking blue that will fit well in an office setting without drawing much attention.

Great blue ink
Best ink on my small collection. Gorgeous hue of blue. Good price compared to others with equal reviews and YouTube recommendations. Hope they never run out.

The gold standard of blue inks
Waterman has been making high quality inks for almost a century and a half, and they really know what they are doing. The inks are pure and free of the chemicals and particles that can ruin a pen of any quality. You can use them in your thousand dollar grail pen and in your six dollar knockabout without concern, and with a striking result. Serenity blue is a classic deep blue with a brilliant finish that distinguishes it from run of the mill blues. But it's not so flashy that it seems out of context when signing important documents. The ink is not waterproof, but few inks are (though they may advertise water resistance). But it dries quickly and resists smearing. And like the rest of Waterman's inks, it is inexpensive. Finally, the bottle is shaped to sit steady while tilted, so you can get the last of the ink out. From start to finish Waterman inks will serve you well, as they have served aficionados and offices, students and professionals for years.

Solid Choice!
Waterman inks are known for their reliability. It's a solid choice for any fountain pen enthusiast, but especially for new users who will benefit from a well-behaved ink. Although there's not a lot, you can see shading and even sheen with the right nib and the right paper. Well lubricated, it writes smooth and consistently. And the color is just a very serene blue. Highly recommended.

Excellent.
Writes well. Good flow. Shade is the standard blue, same as other brands. I wish they had something brighter. Bottle is new, manufactured in 2026.

Flui super bem. No mancha. De excelência. O azul é simplesmente maravilhoso. Bonito de verdade. Dá gosto escrever com ele. Sobre a embalagem, precisa melhorar. O pote veio intacto, mas a caixa não escapou às intempéries. : )
