If You're Looking for a Pod Style Machine, Look No Further!
After much research into buying my first "pod" style coffee maker, I chose the Dolce Gusto Genio 2, and I am more than thrilled with my choice! I chose Nescafe over the other well-known brand, because I have read of far too many reviews on all the models of that brand that state that they are being more cheaply made than they used to be, and thus prone to breaking down shortly after purchase. I decided to completely boycott the brand, coffee pods and all, to help encourage them to return to making a high quality product. And, luckily, that is how I stumbled onto this Nescafe machine! I'm so glad that I did! I'll get right down to the few cons that this machine has, for those debating whether it's for them, but otherwise, just buy it! CONS: Makes a small cup of coffee. The highest water setting still makes a vastly smaller cup of coffee than I'm used to with drip machines. Of course, with drip machines, I'm used to filling up and re-filling as high as I want from the carafe. You can always make a second pod, but at $.50 - $1.00 per pod, it isn't as economical. You'd be looking at a $2.00 cup of daily coffee. I have half a mind to measure, and see if it produces the same amount at the same setting every time. HOWEVER, I tried the variety pack of coffees and espresso pods, and they are FAR SUPERIOR to the best pod coffee I've had from the well-known brand/coffee maker. It has been so nice to instead have coffee house style drinks, with bold complex flavours and hearty foam every morning, instead of plain old coffee. This is a European brand machine and coffee, so maybe the best thing to do, is to just do as the Europeans do, and enjoy a smaller cuppa that packs a big and delicious punch. Secondly, the machine is loud, compared to a drip machine. At a professional 15 bars of pressure to make it's delicious espresso, and under $100 for the machine, this is to be expected, and not a con that I think Nescafe actually needs to address. It's more of an FYI, if you have babies or husband's in the home that you don't want to wake in the morning. Third, and this is just another FYI, not a problem, the machine looks nice and modern (and looks more expensive than the other brand), but the shape of the water reservoir makes it stick out funny from my kitchen counter wall. I like things to sit flush. Not a deal breaker, obviously, I'll adapt. PROS: It should be mentioned that Nescafe Dolce Gusto's customer service is outstanding! They were very quick to get back to me in the same day over email, and went above and beyond over a small issue. If you're looking for the convenience of a pod machine, look no further. The price, quality, and delicious coffee make this one the superior choice!

I never imagined I would love a pod coffeemaker
These days, I was trying to cut back on coffee. I have a beautiful French press I got here, but it takes a while to grind the coffee and heat the water and blah blah blah. So although it may great coffee, I found myself not having coffee when I wanted it. So I got this one after looking around probably because Amazon had a coupon that made it cheaper. And I was really impressed with all the European coffees - the espresso, all kinds of espresso, and different kinds of what appeared to be good strong coffee. So I ordered a bunch of coffee too. Most of it was coming from England and I was shocked when I realized that the coffee was getting here and Amazon had not even started to ship the coffee maker two weeks later. Living in Alaska I don't expect to get prime service but I kinda hope to get it before Christmas when I ordered it in September. So I sent an email and a nice Amazon customer service person make sure that it got in the mail immediately and actually I got today shipping which I normally don't get even though I'm a prime member. I am thrilled with this coffee. Well it is not as good as perfectly grounded French press coffee, it is darn close. I have friends I see a lot more of because they want to come over in the morning and have a cup of coffee. This kind of coffee, from this dolce gusto coffeemaker. I did have a problem originally. I turned it on to run hot water through it as the directions said and nothing happened. I had a flashing red light, no water came through and I was very very unhappy . The instruction book that came with my coffee maker said nothing about priming, which is something that apparently you have to do the first time. I just turned it off that night and the next morning I turned it on again and it had primed itself by sitting there and it worked perfectly to clean the coffee maker and then to make the coffee. And the coffee was fabulous and has been every time I have made it no matter which kind it is. The only real con that I have is that it vibrates very strongly and I have to stand there to make sure that it doesn't vibrate my coffee cup right off the machine. But since it makes the coffee in less than a minute it's not exactly a hardship.

If you like sweet, light, easily made and cheaper coffee...stick with your Keurig.
The first one I ordered didn't work so I had to exchange it. The one that came in It's place was a different model. But still worked. I guess I'm just disappointed in the product and the coffee variety. I have a Keurig and have had the same one for over 6 years now. It's just now starting to make a few funny noises so thought I'd try this. If you like having a sweet cappuccino, macchiato or other such beverage don't bother to get this Nescafe Dulce ...maker. Stick with your Keurig. I didn't like ANY of the cappuccino or macchiato or other coffee I received from them. They were too dark. Definitely were not sweet at all and by time you add the extra sugar or milk...the whole point of getting this is mute. Your drink doesn't look pretty with its separated layers and it's taken 3-4× longer than the same drink would in your Keurig. If you like very dark coffee drinks that are not sweet at all...even those coffees that say they are sweetened are not.. Then this would be a great machine for you. If you like sweet, light, or milky coffee straight from the machine then get or stick with your Keurig. The coffee is cheaper, tastes better, no extra work and if you are lucky like me your Keurig will last you many years. I'm writing this review almost 7 months after getting this product ...and even with its funny noises...my Keurig is still working. Keeping my fingers crossed. But if it does...I'll just hunt on eBay or somewhere else to get the same model I've had so much luck with. Happy coffee drinking!!

Life's too short for bad coffee.......
Fast. Easy. Hot. Delicious. I've had my coffee maker for just a few days now but am extremely pleased, the Nescafe Dolce Gusto coffee selections fit my tastes & so I chose the DeLonghi Genio over the Keurig product. Hard water is my only issue so I filter my good well water to remove the calcium w/a Pur pitcher style filter system. The system operates exactly as it's designed to do. Heats up to ready very quickly, insert & lock in the pod, set the water amount as noted on the pod and push the brew button. Foolproof unless you forget to put a cup in place, I haven't tried my coffee that way yet. NOT worth taking a star away for the instruction booklet but it should have had more dialogue to go along with the pictorials. Cleanup is easy, ridiculously easy. Takes up very little counter space and provides barista style & quality coffees. My 80 mile round trip to town (I live in real rural country) is usually capped off w/a quality coffee @ the $5.00 mark plus a tip, that $6.00 X's 3 trips per week adds up quickly, nearly $80 per month. Now instead I can either make a quality brew for the ride into town or anticipate it on my return. It won't be long until the Genio is paid for in full and the cost in savings per coffee becomes an asset. This DeLonghi Genio would make an awesome gift. I'd give it an extra 3 or 4 stars if I could. ******************************************** ******************************************** So those were my feelings a month ago. After breaking the water tank (didn't take much) on my machine I contacted DeLonghi for a replacement, they were kind enough to offer to send one to me free, they said it would take 7-10 days, that was on January 20th. Two weeks later & I still do not have my water tank. Called again today waiting exactly 31 minutes to speak to a rep to find out where my part was, I was told that it was out of stock (when I was assured it was available 2 weeks ago) and that they shipped this past Friday the 31st; and so NOW it will be 7-10 days from Friday before I get the tank I need. Although the Nescafe Dolce Gusto staff is based here in the USA you'll get the same sketchy customer service we've been blessed with since those kinds of jobs have started being outsourced overseas.

Good Night Keurig, Good Mooooooorning Dolce Gusto!
Man does this make fantastic coffee. I got sick of having to clean out the Keurig machine everyday and decided to go on a limb to try something new after I heard about this from one of my coworkers. Turns out: Best un-caffeinated decision I've ever made. The cost per pod comes out to about the same, but try a comparison taste test for yourself and you will be BLOWN away. Added bonus: No more messy clean up or residue, the capsule is completely self-contained! It's fairly compact so I decided to take it to work with me and now have it near my desk. It has since been affectionately dubbed by my stream of regulars (we pool capsules at the office) as, Le' Cafe Manchot (or "The Penguin Cafe" for you savvy french speakers). Just know though, like some of the other reviewers mentioned, it uses pressure-extraction so it does emit a sound as it compresses the flavor. About the same loudness as an electric shaver, so no need to bust out los paraorecchies "earmuffs" (How much do I love Google translate?). Si. Another pro tip: It comes with a free 2-year warranty to feel free to skip the protection plan, and save the dough for those Rosetta Stone courses you'll be inspired to take as you sing Carmen and brew espresso inside your own kitchen. My favorite flavors (so far) are: 1. Iced Cappuccino (and YES the cups really do have the super layered effect you see in the pictures. Prepare to amaze your guests) 2. Lungo - Awesome hipster coffeehouse-style espresso for afternoon pick-me ups. Bold and toasty with a fantastic floral finish. Get thee me a cup of lungo and a Madeline cookie and We. Are. Done-zo. 3. Dark Roast - This is a larger (12oz) cup that I like to take in the mornings. Smooth and velvety with a dark chocolate finish. And PS. the machines all come with free coffee! Now dazs value.

Starbucks at home!
I originally ordered this machine for myself, hoping that my Husband would join me on the terrace every so often. My Husband is not a coffee drinker and mostly complains that they are 'too strong'. Lo and behold, I have only had one serving of the Cappuccino and he has become an actual addict! I have found that I am too sensitive to caffeine; hence why I stopped after that first mug. They only offer one type that is Decaf at this time and it is very difficult to find online besides going through Nescafe themselves. I have had to order a couple of boxes through Walmart, Bed Bath & Beyond and finally Nescafe. Besides the Nescafe site, you will not be able to find all varieties at one location. Personally, I have not tried locally because the list of stores seems very limited and not convenient. Back to the coffee: I can honestly describe it as delicious and velvety. The 15 bars of pressure that they boast regarding the foam is truly magnificent and present. I believe that is what amplifies rather simple flavors into something so heavenly in your mouth. We currently own 9 flavors and I almost daily drink the 'Peach Iced Tea'. It is exactly what you would expect in terms of flavor; peachy, frothy and lightly sweet. The Hubby is drinking two cups a day. He begins his day with an Iced Cappuccino and then a hot drink later on. We love the customize-ability of the machine in that you can choose how much milk (for the flavors that provide a milk pod!) or how many bars of coffee. With this method you are able to choose how weak or strong your coffee is. The machine is sleek and has a very small footprint (that's why I chose this model/style) on my kitchen counter. It blends with our stainless steel appliance filled kitchen. Now onto the bit of bad... Why not 5 stars? The reason is that I do not know at this time how reliable this machine will be. The first machine that was shipped out was used twice before it just started to leak from the bottom of the water reservoir. Luckily, Amazon shipped out a brand new one and this machine has been put through the ringer the last month and it is still fully operational. The other reason it lost its final star is because of coffee availability. I seriously had to shop online at three different retailers to be able to find 90 percent of the current offerings. It shouldn't be this difficult, NESCAFE!! Amazon does sell in bulk, but I didn't want to commit financially to such an order when I didn't even know how they tasted. For the future, we will be ordering in bulk on here for our favorites. I am happy to report that I did see a small section dedicated to these coffee pods in our local Stop and Shop a few nights ago. Maybe the company is catching on and they will continue to grow in store availability. One can only hope. Highly recommend if you love the idea of 15 bars of pressure in your very own kitchen. Each individual pod equates to a bit over a dollar which is rather expensive but if you are a Starbucks or frou frou coffee drinker, then this is a steal! If you enjoy your Sanka with water then you will find it to be a financial burden. Btw, I have already spent nearly 100 dollars in coffee. WOWSERS!

Working great and a little comparison to Keurigs
One night, before its first use, I followed the directions to run water through a cold and hot cycle to "rinse" the machine and I took the extra step of letting the machine rest overnight after reading reviews about the machine not working at first for some folks, maybe due to pressure and needing to let the machine sit for at least an hour to resolve this. Not sure if I needed to let it rest or not but the next morning, the machine worked perfectly and has been now everyday for the two weeks that we have been using it. I have not had any problems with dripping after the brewing is done because I simply pull the drawer with the capsule out and hold it over the cup I just brewed and walk it to the trash can and dump. Not a single drip has hit the drip plate this way and there is no clean up. So far, we are really happy with this little guy. Smaller than a Keurig Mini yet has a reservoir tank for several drinks and the K-Mini only holds enough water for one drink at a time. I will say that all the Keurigs make larger cups of coffee and all of the Dolce Gusto machines are more about the smaller, specialty drinks, in general. For example, the Keurig suits my father best, who just wants a big, economical cup of any 'ole black coffee. My husband and I are more about the specialty drinks. This machine will also make a good cup of black Joe (look for their "Grande" varieties) but not quite as big or as economical a cup as a Keurig which might be a better choice for the everyday big, black coffee drinker (and those who add their own creamer/sweetener). This type of machine is far better for those of us who like to mix it up with Espressos, Capps, Lattes, etc... if you do not mind buying capsules online which is not an issue for us.

Awesome product-Well Made-No Complaints.....
Ok so im not a big coffee drinker but my wife loves coffee before her morning commute to work. Stopping at dunkin donuts wastes some time when you drive long miles to work. So this machine makes a great cup of coffee. I enjoyed the Caramel Latte Macchiato and the Cappuccino drinks. Its so quick and easy and hassle free. I find myself drinking daily now because of these characteristics. Its well made. The compartment for the pods has a magnet built into it so it feels very secure when inserted. Its small, doesnt take up space and looks real nice with other appliances. Its the perfect temperature when finished. I do find that the recommended amounts of water are not for me. I always use 5 or 6 bars on my coffee and 2 bars on my milk. You can fine tine your servings and will always have the exact taste once you find it. I usually put milk first with sugar already in cup and stir. Then add the coffee and decide how much stirring I need, it makes for a great option in taste. Im going to order more pods of different flavors and can not wait to try them out. I have no real complaints at all. Maybe a more precise coffee drinker will have some complaints. But im a simple kind of drinker and very happy with it.
