Purchased for my dog
Although Louisiana has mild winters, my small dog gets cold during the winter months. Inside the house isn't a problem, but I have an office that's detached from our house. A portable heater is fine for me, but he requires more. That's how the idea of a heating pad in his bed came to be.The size on the box says 11.5 x 13.5, but my measurements are close to a half of an inch larger. Perfect size for my tiny dog. There's only one temperature setting, with a slide on/off switch. The heating pad came with a sponge, which I removed since there's no need for moist heat. Also included is a washable cloth cover that stays secure with a single plastic snap.Conair is a brand I've purchased in the past with positive results. This time has been no different. I made this purchase in November 2012 and have used it daily ever since it arrived. Still works great! As an added note, I'd like to thank the other reviewers who purchased this product for their pet. It was because of them I made this purchase!Update: Purchased this in November 2012. Stopping using it in March of 2013 and placed it in the closet. Started using it again in November 2013 (for my dog) and it's still going strong. I do want to add, I started placing the pad under my dog's bed. Keeps his bed nice and warm.

Used for outside feral cats to keep warm
I am on a budget and I take care of 13 feral cats. I was looking for something to help keep them warm this frigid winter...I do have outside houses but it has been really super cold. I bought this because it does not shut off and it was a lot cheaper than other options labeled for cat/dog outside. I use this on a covered porch that has a gfi outlet, rain does get on the porch and so does snow, not a lot but there is a some wetness. I have no problems with this item in this situation, but it is not getting saturated either. I would say if it is used in a garage or like it will be fine, I would not use in a total outdoor situation, and of course I know its not made for it. The pad itself is very soft and even is padded nicely, it is of a generous size, a full size cat or two would keep warm with it. This would also be an excellent choice for a dog or cat that needs warmth inside esp if they have arthritis, etc.

The cats LOVE this
First off, I have had none of the fire-related concerns that others have commented on. I do check the pad and wire for damage once or twice a month, but I have seen no wear. Also, this model only has one setting and does not have an emergency shutoff.I bought this for my cats as they are not liking the cold this winter. I leave the dry foam piece (meant to turn the pad into a moist heater) on top of the heater under the case to help protect the pad from claws. I also put another blanket over the setup. Then I can forget it until I need to change the blanket. The cats LOVE it and it seems to be the right temperature even though it only has one setting. They even sometimes sleep on top of each other because more than one of them want to be on it. My biggest mistake was only buying one when I have more than one cat...

This is the ONLY pad that I've had work for almost 2 years with practically daily usage --- I only have two issues with this pad
Before you continue to read my review please note that my use is probably NOT the recommended usage for the average person but it does prove how RELIABLE this heating pad is, especially for the purchase price. I've used pretty much EVERY pad out there at one point or another so I know which are actually useful and which are fairly useless.I have two health conditions that cause me to literally require *at least one* well working heating pad that does NOT have auto shut off. Sickle Beta Thal. which causes me to have serious pain episodes than can cause me to have to be hospitalized for up to two weeks. Another condition that is caused BY that one is Avascular Necrosis which is when an area of bone doesn't get the blood supply it requires and dies off. I have it in both hips and my shoulder. Basically I'm in pain somewhere every day, most times OTC pain medicine works. But I live in the deep south and yet the last two winters have been very cold (snow in 2014 & in the low teens recently) and the cold causes more pain. I've kept a heating pad in my bed year round for as long as I can remember because it is my only defense since I do not like to take the stronger pain medications. Staying in bed, under the cover, with heating pad(s) to help blood flow and keep me warm. In doing that I've burned (literally in some instances) through a bunch of heating pads. I've had some that didn't make it 6 months before burning/melting (thankfully never on me or through my mattress). Others that have the auto shut off's are a pain for me because the shut off when I need the continual heat. This is the ONLY pad that I've had work for almost 2 years with practically daily usage. I still have the other pad but I ordered this one as a replacement. Why replacement? My old one, though it still turns on and heats up, only heats on half of the pad instead of the full pad. That was my sign to get a new one for whenever the other half stops working. You really can't beat the quality of this pad when you compare it to the price that you pay. I only have two issues with this pad.1) The cover needs to be just an inch or two longer so that it actually can stay on the pad. The single little button would actually work then. You will have to constantly fix the cover because it will come off with the slightest move. It was a pain but after asking my mom who sews to make a cover that fits correctly, it's no big deal now. Alternatively, you could ditch the cover and use a thick towel temporarily.2) There's no manual heat setting. The control button slides into the ON position or the OFF position. Because of this some people may find this pad to be too warm/hot since we all have different ideas about how much heat is comfortable. For instance, this pad is perfect for me at the temp it's set at. When my mom felt it through the cover that comes with it, she thought it was too hot.

Good heat, but....
I bought this heating pad to treat my chronic backache. It heats quickly, and the moist heat (created when the thin foam insert is made wet and reinserted) is quite nice. However, the instructions on the heating pad say it is not intended to lie down on. So I am using it in the recliner. Problem is, when it's used frequently in the intended upright position, the plastic cover scrunches up underneath the thin fabric slipcover. This can be remedied by turning it upside-down and using it that way. Quite a bother, though. Also, the foam "moist heat" insert is very flimsy and has already torn after less than a week of use. There is only a on-off switch - no way to adjust the heat other than turning it off when the heat gets uncomfortable. I am glad to have my own heating pad, but might keep looking for a better one.
