Extremely thorough and detailed resource
I've read some of the other reviews, and I can't understand why anyone would say this book doesn't have enough examples or enough detail. The author explains what every option does -- on every tab in every box. I bought this book when my own needs for coding in VBA went beyond recording macros and asking questions on Stack Overflow. This is the third book I've tried, and is the only one that went into enough detail to answer my questions.Even with the experience I'd gained, I started at the very beginning of the book (skipping the exercises/practice when I knew that I knew how to do them) and worked through it chapter by chapter. I have had to skip ahead now and then to complete specific assignments at work, but skipping didn't leave me confused, as there are plenty of references to earlier material when needed. My only complaint is the editing between the sample code and the text. Sometimes, the text refers to something in the sample code, but the code doesn't match what the text says it is. (For example, Listing 3.4 on page 77, and the steps that follow it don't match up completely.) I'm a technical editor who is branching out into VBA, so it's clear this is an artifact of revising the earlier edition, and no important information is lost. This also might not bother someone who isn't an editor by trade.

First Master First Focus
As a returnie to macros and VB, let me say that I've really enjoyed diving into this subject matter after a long hiatus. It would be helpful to have icons warning readers who are cherry picking ideas that before using this sub that you have to do something else. For example, I've successfully used Excel to parse chapters of a a fictional novel I am writing for emotional content. The section on creation of objects in Word to send to Excel is sparse and I'm still trying to understand it. I'm sure the majority of users are going the opposite direction, Excel to word as a table or some such, but you'll always encounter someone like myself. What was effective about Microsoft's original Northwind demo of Microsoft Access was that it provided a unified focus. It would be nice to have a VBA book use one core example so that the projects would be oriented to problem solving in a context that isn't abstract. In a future revision you might want to consider coordinating around Microsoft's BI, Sharepoint and Cloud services model.I use OneNote as well and wish there was better and easier ways of doing things rather than go through XLM.

Comprehensive Visual Basic info for MS-Office
I like the programming examples, but I wish the index was better. For example, a list of all VBA built-in functions with references to page numbers would be welcome. Use this book together with on-line resources from Microsoft support.

Not enough detail
I'll qualify this review by saying that I HAVE NOT GONE ALL THE WAY THROUGH IT yet. I did want to point out to the authors, however, that the book doesn't have enough in-depth detail to call it "Mastering". Most of the content is available on MS's help site. If I take the trouble to pay for a book, I need the kind of depth and examples that Microsoft leaves out. I need the more thorough examples, a wider variety of examples, and coverage of less common situations that MS doesn't cover.Once I get through the book more thoroughly (if I get to that point - working two jobs right now), I'll consider changing my rating. For now, 3 stars.

Honestly, VBA coding is not really a strong interest of mine and I am certainly not a talented coder. This textbook was required for a class I took. I did the job I suppose, but I did not find it unusually helpful- often a simple Google search yielded faster results.

A great manual on MS Office Automation.
Great informative guide with true practical solutions to day-to-day operation. It would be wonderful if more step-by-step screenshots to demo the exercises for the beginners.

Interesting tool for those wishing to develop vba in more than just excel
Is in depth tool for development of VBA skills across the MS office suite (not just excel as per my previous experience), a step up from beginner level, Im not an "expert" so cannot comment on higher level expertise...
