Rebel cop, Sledge Hammer (David Rasche) is everyones favorite trigger-happy lawman and a one-man crusade against crime. His extreme, unorthodox methods which include, firing warning shots at jaywalkers, dragging suspects around parking lots by his rear bumper until they confess, blasting a building-demolishing bazooka shot at a sniper, and talking to his .44 Magnum have gotten him suspended from the force more times than he can remember] but he gets results! Harrison Page and Anne-Marie Martin co-star in this hilariously deranged lampoon of DIRTY HARRY. This special collection includes both seasons from SLEDGE HAMMER!, one of the funniest, most notorious series in television history whose rabid cult of fans grows to this day! Review: Very funny series worth the money to purchase - Very funny series great to watch during the winter Review: classic 80s! - This was a favorite show of mine and my brother's when we were growing up. Over-the-top and lots of fun. I am so glad that they finally released it on DVD. I only wish they had also released The Charmings.

Just brilliant
I loved this show when i was a teen. The nakeds gun's Frank Drebin meets Dirty Harry, Sledge Hammer is hilariously unorthodox, trigger happy and a pure blood psycho, but he gets results. Its all there, 5 DVDs, 2 seasons, 41 episodes. Mark that the show per se is from 1986 and the DVD copies (cleaned and straightened or not) are still over 20 years old and more, so the quality is definitely not 4k ... its 90s DVD quality and its good.

I am convinced Sledge and Dori got it on
In the penultimate episode of the series, It Happened What Night? You saw the video, they're together in bed, fooling around, drunk in a hotel room, Dori in her slip. What red-blooded American can can resist a fox like Dori Doreau? And she's got that wicked high kick, all done in a tight skirt and heels. Yeeeow! A lot to like about this show. Easy comparison to Police Squad, they even steal a running gag, and make it their own running gag. Substituting for the bumbling detective is Sledge, a psychotic officer who's never without his trusty .44. He sleeps with it on his pillow at night, as well as having the occasional heart to heart. Funny thing is, as nuts as Sledge is, he never shoots anyone! He invariably shoots the gun out of the criminal's hand. (Ok, I'm not including the Pilot, where he takes out a sniper by blowing up a building with a bazooka). One of my favorite characters is the perpetually-irate Captain, it's another running gag that he is always furious and screaming at Sledge. Lots of guest stars throughout the first season, mostly dry up for the second. Cancelled after only two seasons, and in the history of great shows getting cancelled too early, I kind of get it. First of all, Sledge Hammer says "cult following" all the way, but this era of sitcom is not kind to shows that don't tell you when to laugh (no laugh track on SH). It's an embarrassment, though I think audiences have matured since.

Amazing show, lackluster dvd
Series: Sledge Hammer! is bar none, one of the funniest tv shows I've ever seen. There's really nothing like it, but the closest thing I can think of to it is Team America: World Police - (Unrated...

"But, all the other cops are such wusses!"
How could anyone not love Officer Sledge Hammer? Video quality is excellent. Audio is good. Yes, it's cheesy. It is supposed to be cheesy! It is absolutely hilarious. Dori (Sledge's female cop partner) asks why Sledge didn't tell her the big secret about the captain still being alive and hiding out. Sledge responds, "Umm.. Because you're a girl, and you have a PHONE." so matter of factly. Bwahahahaa!! No laugh tracks on this program. Maybe that's why young people don't "get it". I absolutely hate laugh tracks in all the current comedies on TV, and it gives me a headache. Sledge Hammer is the prescription to cure that.

Ultimate "tough cop" spoof.
OK, not for the easily offended. It is a spoof on some of the old "tough guy" cop and detective shows. I find it hilarious. The acting is great. I think the actor playing the captain is the best "second banana" support. Sledge's woman partner is also great in enhancing Sledge's funny extremism. (Shoot first, don't ask questions later).
